The High Sheriff of Northamptonshire

Amy Crawfurd

Amy Crauford

High Sheriffs are appointed by His Majesty the King to represent him in each county in matters relating to the judiciary and the maintenance of law and order.

I moved to South Northamptonshire with my husband, Edward, over thirty years ago, and have four children, Emma, Georgina, Violet and Robert.

My professional background has been in public relations at an international company. My role was to coordinate PR teams across the world and manage international events. I then worked as an administrative partner in a private medical practice for over twenty-five years.

Since moving up here, I have been involved in various areas of voluntary work, including being a Foundation governor at my local primary school and Lay Chair of the PCC.  I joined the magistracy in 2005, and since that time the focus of my efforts has been related to the justice system.  My particular interest has been in and around the youth courts. I have been both Youth Panel Chair and Deputy Bench Chair of the Adult Bench. Outside my court commitments, I go into primary and secondary schools as part of the Magistrates’ Association, Magistrates in the Community team, to educate and inform children and young people about the justice system and the consequences of a criminal conviction.

My Year.

I am interested in a trauma informed and strength-based approach to healthier and happier futures especially in the young who come into our court system. So, I wish to support organisations and individuals who take this approach, and those who are involved in the power and inspiring effects of music and sport in young people’s lives. I am a Trustee of Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust, where I see first-hand the benefits of music.

The Office of High Sheriff is a Royal appointment for a single year and is non-political. It has a long history going back to Anglo-Saxon times. I am the King's representative for law and order in the county and I will be actively supporting the Judiciary, the Police and other Emergency Services, as well as voluntary organisations and recognised church and faith groups. The role is entirely voluntary, and no expense incurred to the public purse.
