The Goed Life was established in 2017 with the aim of enhancing the lives of people with learning disabilities. We aim to give people a leg up into society to help realise their potential and show how they can contribute to society. There are 1.5 million people with learning disabilities in the UK and 94% are unemployed. It doesn’t need to be this way. The charity was founded by the Goedhuis Family whose adult son, Sam, has Down’s Syndrome. Having seen the amazing work of The Beehive Cafe in Northampton, and the hugely positive impact it had had on Sam’s life, they wanted to do whatever they could to aid and enhance this work. The charity has achieved a great deal in a very small time. During the pandemic, for example, it threw its weight behind The Place to Bee - an entirely new site in Kingsthorpe that builds on the work of The Beehive Cafe by bringing the experience of meaningful employment to those of all ages. By supporting the Goed Life, you’re helping bring a new sense of purpose, direction, and belonging to those who most need it.
