I was delighted to give Karen Hoer @winurture a High Sheriff's Award in recognition of her outstanding work around vulnerable children and families in various childcare settings. Also as a @northamptonshirepolice volunteer, bringing her skills in training officers and staff in trauma informed practice and giving practical advice around dealing with care home provisions and looked after children. Her contributions to the Child Exploitation (CE) Hub and delivering the new training package combining trauma informed practice and care home engagement have been invaluable. Congratulations Karen! DI Andy Blaize retires and DI Adrian Sharpe steps up to oversee the CE Hub which is doing so much to safeguard and protect our young people in Northamptonshire. 👏👏

I was invited along to Cogenhoe Primary School to see Year 6 receive their certificates of completion from the @lifeskillsct Life Skills Education charity. Their programmes help children make better decisions and navigate risk around alcohol, drugs, knife crime, dealing with stress, risky behaviour, solvents & psychoactive substances, with better communication and resistance strategies to help. This is an essential toolkit for those children about to transition up to secondary school. Thank you to Cogenhoe School and Life Skills CEO Linda Ellis @lindajulieellis and presenter @chellebellsbegley.👏👏

It was a pleasure to meet @silhouetteyouth and their CEO @leighwol earlier this week. What a vibrant and impactful group of young people with a mission and vision of growth amongst their local community. Based out of @westonfavellshopping centre, they nurture, create and perform throughout the year. Every element of Sihouette's work is driven by fifteen young people on their leadership team. Impressive stats in 2023 with an outreach to 48 schools in the Northampton and Rushden area, engaging with over 3,000 students involving 109 teaching staff and reaching an audience of just under 17,000. They run 12 productions a year and are only one of 15 Royal Shakespeare Company Associate Regional Theatre Partners in the UK. A small but impressive charity with a big vision to expand. What a superb learning resource for our Year 6 chi

What a superb learning resource for our Year 6 children about the dangers and pitfalls they may encounter! Whether it be the dangers of electricity, building sites or doing a favour to carry 'a package', or online grooming - Warning Zone provides a fun way of learning with interactive zones and a highly visual, kinaesthetic, hands on experience for children to prepare them for their transition up to secondary school and into adolescence. I joined Interim CEO, Greg Johnson and the High Sheriff of Rutland #hsrutland to meet two visiting schools from Northamptonshire and Rutland. This year 253 schools have visited and 11,214 children have experienced a stimulating and memorable day to help them make the right decisions. Thank you to all the staff but also the volunteers who make this all possible. 👏

A great visit to the Oakley Rangers Youth Music group in Corby. For over seventeen years Paul Balmer and Judy Caine have given up their Saturdays to teach children free ‘rockstyle’ music lessons in exchange for the young people giving back to their community by litter-picking or playing at charity gigs to raise money for good causes. Opened by the Mayor of Northampton, Paul Joyce, this inspiring youth-led event has been planned, promoted and delivered by young people. It was an excellent night at the #nayc Northamptonshire Association of Youth Clubs AGM. The new President, @james.saunders.watson our Lord-Lieutenant, leading the proceedings along with Chief Executive John Whittaker. Wonderful to see @sn_youth_engagement receive the NAYC’s President’s Cup for showing significant impact on the local community. They also received certificates of commendation for their Tuesday Night Youth Club in Brackley and their Wednesday Night Youth Club in Towcester. A fabulous and committed team making a difference to our young people in South Northamptonshire. A brilliant morning’s visit to Northampton Sain

A brilliant morning’s visit to Northampton Saints Foundation #saintsfdation to meet Jordan Letts founder and visionary behind this fantastic charity and his team. The Foundation gets young people back on track with a number of programmes such as #hitz and #Engage supporting those in primary and secondary school who find themselves at risk of permanent exclusion. Did you know 22,000 children aged 6 and under were excluded or suspended in our schools across England in 2022? This shocking figure is tackled head on by Northampton Saints Foundation by improving self esteem, confidence, motivation and learning reflecting the core values of rugby in teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship throughout the programmes offered to young people. The outreach has been remarkable and continues to grow with 6 hubs open across our region. This is certainly a charity making a huge impact on children’s lives. 🙏🙏

Northamptonshire’s senior coroner, Mrs Anne Pemb

Northamptonshire’s senior coroner, Mrs Anne Pember, kindly invited me to observe a morning of inquests. It was sobering to hear of the deceased’s last moments in each case. Volunteers help look after the families who attend and everything is clearly explained. It is not a trial or apportioning blame but a factual laying out of the evidence and a finding of how the deceased died, when and where. The family has a right to receive documentation and evidence and also has the right to ask witnesses relevant questions. A coroner’s findings may be critical of what happened but they cannot blame organisations or individuals or find them responsible for the death. An important function in society carried out by HM Coroners. 🙏🙏

What a brilliant weekend of celebrations for Diwali (the Festival of Lights) across Northamptonshire! Friday evening at the Multi-Faith celebrations hosted by the Wellingborough District Hindu Association https://wdha.co.uk/ with the Lord-Lieutenant, James Saunders Watson @ll2018a @wixonmiranda the Police Fire & Crime Commissioner Danielle Stone and Deputy @marianne.kimani @neelamaggarwalsingh Dipana Patel and many other wonderful guests. Then on Saturday, the big parade in Northampton organised by the Indian Hindu Welfare Organisation and the indefatigable Neelam Aggarwal-Singh MBE DL JP The only Diwali parade in the UK, it was a burst of wonderful coloured lights and joy as the float, giant puppets, lit-up flowers made by school children and dancers made their way around the town and finished at the newly restored Market Square. A brilliant day spent with Northamptonshire Police

A brilliant day spent with Northamptonshire Police earlier this week. As High Sheriff my role is to support all those organisations who maintain law and order and I met many officers and staff who are working hard to keep our communities safer. I won’t name individuals but each team and department I met were determined to disrupt and catch perpetrators of crime. Officers who put themselves on the front line to protect us here in Northamptonshire 🙏🙏
I also visited the Child Exploitation (CE) Hub at the Criminal Justice Centre, which was launched in July of this year. The hub houses police officers, social workers, youth workers, early intervention practitioners and health professionals who specialise in safeguarding children who are at risk of criminal and sexual exploitation. Although these agencies already work closely together, the creation of the hub with the teams and services all in house means the response and collaboration is highly effective. The element of proactively catching, disrupting and detering exploiters is an essential element of protecting our children. The Northamptonshire Courts Service was held last night at All Saints, Northampton. I had the support of ten visiting High Sheriffs, the Lord Lieutenant, Mr Justice Choudhury, Mr Justice Henshaw, the Resident Judge & Crown Court Judges, DJ's, the Coroner and the magistracy, along with members of the legal community and emergency services attending. The Mayor of Northampton & the county's mayors along with the Chair & Vice-Chair of WNC and a representative from NNC joined the Civic Procession. NMPAT young singers, the All Saints Choir led by Jem Lowther, assistant organist Laurence Caldecote & the Organ Scholar William Baker provided the music and a thoughtful sermon was given by the Right Rev. John Holbrook, Bishop of Brixworth. Thank you to the Rector, Reverend Oliver Coss for hosting us all and to my Chaplain, Lesley Dale and the interfaith prayers from the Jewish, Baha'i, Hindu, Muslim & Sikh communities. So many to thank in the judicial community for their hard work and dedication to justice and mercy.

It's the beginning of the Legal Year and as High Sheriffs we organise a Courts Service in each of our Counties for our judges and to thank all those who are involved in the maintenance of law and order.
