Born and brought up in Cardiff, Dominic Hopkins attended the European Law School at the University of Exeter, graduating in Law. On passing his Law Finals, he spent four years at the City of London law firm Simmons & Simmons as a commercial litigation solicitor at its London and Hong Kong offices, gaining experience in financial services and banking fraud work and other complex cases. Moving to Northamptonshire in 1991, Dominic joined the Northampton office of the law firm Hewitsons and was appointed partner in 1995. Since then, he has held various senior management positions in the practice. He is presently Joint Head of the Central England Office of the merged firm of HCR Hewitsons and leads the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice in the region. In his legal practice he represents a wide range of business clients - domestic and international – charities and individuals. His professional interests extend to Constitutional Law, Private International Law, and Insolvency Law. Amongst other roles, Dominic has supported and acted as trustee of various Trusts associated with the County and for some 25 years has been the Honorary Solicitor of the Northamptonshire Association of Youth Clubs, a substantial registered county charity of which he is an enthusiastic supporter. He also acts as advocate for a range of initiatives that promote the administration of and access to Justice. In 2008 Dominic was first appointed to the office of Under Sheriff of Northamptonshire and he has served successive High Sheriffs of the County since then. For a number of years, he has also acted as Clerk and adviser to the High Sheriff of Northamptonshire’s Nominations Panel. In recognition of his services to the County, in 2018 Dominic was commissioned a Deputy Lieutenant of Northamptonshire. In that role, he is a member of the Honours Committee for the county and other working groups. Latterly, in 2023, Dominic was appointed to the Crown Nominations Commission for nomination of the Bishop of Peterborough. Dominic lives with his wife Sally in Islip in East Northamptonshire. They have two sons.
