Born in Powys, Wales, Amanda married Hugh Lowther in 1985 and moved to Northamptonshire in 1986. They have three daughters, Flora, Georgia and Lucia, all now living and working in London. Amanda has lived in Northamptonshire for 33 years and now feels very much part of the community. She has a great love of the countryside and is a partner of Lowther Farms with her husband Hugh. They are both involved in various aspects of life and events in Guilsborough and the wider area and in charity events in the community. Amanda is a Deputy Lieutenant in Northamptonshire and she is honoured to have been appointed High Sheriff of Northamptonshire for 2021-22.

Amanda’s career has been centred predominantly in fine art and led to studying History of Art at Leicester University as a mature student, graduating in 2011 with a First Class Honours degree. This led to British Art Portfolio, founded in 2011 with her partner Louise Newton, curating pop-up art exhibitions around the country and specialising in Modern British and Contemporary original British art.

Amanda has been a Founding Friend of Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust since its inception in 2000. She has been a Governor at St Andrew’s Healthcare, Northampton since 2009 and has also been a Mental Health Act Manager since 2012, thus gaining a valuable insight into the problems faced by so many people.

Following on from the extraordinary year experienced by the whole country due to Covid 19, Amanda is keenly aware of the problems experienced by young people, from school age to university leavers, as well as victims of domestic abuse. In her year, she will be shining a light on the many excellent community and voluntary organisations in the county, which are rising to the challenges posed by the months of lockdown and restricted movement.

With the experience of many years involvement of St Andrew’s Healthcare, Amanda has a particular concern for the care needs of those in the community who have learning disabilities. This concern is reflected in her support for The Goed Life, a Northamptonshire charity that enhances the lives of young adults with learning disabilities.

Amanda is also an enthusiastic supporter of the Northamptonshire, Britain’s Best Surprise initiative, which promotes the towns and villages of the county, the unique heritage of the county as well as all the good things to see and do, eat and drink in Northamptonshire.
